Japan is stronger than its opponent, and that will be proven in a head-to-head meeting.
Tunisia arrived at the World Cup after an impressive African qualification. The team in its qualifying group collected 28 of 30 possible points and finished first with a goal difference of 22:0. Nothing foretold trouble that the Tunisians faced in the first round of the World Cup. Not so much the 1:5 defeat by Sweden shocked Tunisia supporters as the complete lack of desire from the national team players. The number of ridiculous mistakes by the Tunisians, including productive ones, exceeded all possible norms that could be explained by nerves. The Tunisian Football Federation instantly reacted to this shock and dismissed Sabri Lamouchi, appointing a caretaker head coach in his place. Such a rash decision, to some extent, may indicate that with such actions the federation relieved itself of responsibility and identified a scapegoat. However it is completely unclear what can be demanded of the crisis manager appointed for two matches, Evre Renara. What ideas could he implement in ten days at the head of Tunisia? Will he be able to explain the tasks to the players and instill confidence in their own abilities after the disgrace against Sweden? Optimism is not particularly in the Tunisia camp regarding the upcoming opponent. Here is where a well-coordinated football mechanism squeezes the maximum out of its available personnel. Japan entered the World Cup without any problems and in the opening round faced the group’s favorite. Against the Netherlands, the Japanese looked quite convincing, managing to come back twice during the match. The incredible work ethic and energy of the Asian side impressed, draining every ounce of energy from the Netherlands by the final quarter. Even if Tunisia presents itself to the fans as a much more composed team, it is unlikely to be able to mount a challenge against the Asian representative. In 2023, Japan and Tunisia met on the pitch for the first time. The Japanese showed a higher level of play then and won 2:0. Now the gap between the opponents seems even more pronounced.
