The fact that the modest club is a solid mid-table side in the Third League, a little closer to the relegation zone than to the promotion zone, adds a special piquancy to the success of the modest club. Saarbrücken last played in the Bundesliga more than thirty years ago, having not been out of the Third League for four consecutive seasons. Overall, the team has never won anything in its 120-year history. In the current German Cup, the success of the hosts of the upcoming meeting can be attributed to a serious charge of motivation and extreme discipline on the field.
