Malmö began the current season in Allsvenskan as the sixth-placed team from the previous season. Such a last-season outcome caused some discontent within the most titled club in Sweden, but no one was really lamenting or banging their heads against the wall. After all, over the last thirteen years Malmö has conditioned everyone to expect that the team always wins exactly two championships in a row, after which it takes a break for one to two seasons. Since 2013, the heavenly-blue have fired such championship doubles four times, but only once did they miss the title in two consecutive seasons. This happened in 2018-2019, and now the team is incredibly close to repeating that setback. Even during the off-season, Malmö's club management took a number of worrying moves. The heavenly-blue squad saw several young, promising players leave, and replacements have been brought in who still have to prove themselves. The club's main winter setback was the appointment of the head coach. At the start of January, Miguel Ángel Ramírez was appointed to this demanding post, who in his relatively short career has coached on nearly every continent, but it seems he never finished what he started and did not stay anywhere for long. After an unprecedented nightmare for the club in the form of a fourth consecutive defeat, Malmö parted ways with Ramírez and has not yet appointed his successor. For the supporters, the coach's dismissal is already a huge positive factor. It seems that even under the assistant manager's guidance, with a squad boasting the league's highest transfer value, Malmö will not perform worse than in the May stretch. The apex of the team's on-field misery was the home defeat to Västerås, who had only just returned to Allsvenskan at the start of the season. Halmstads BK parted ways with their coach even earlier than the upcoming opponent. The team only in the last round earned its first win of the year, which leaves it in the second-to-last place in the division. Only once this season has Halmstad managed not to lose away. It seems that such an opponent is Malmö's best chance to end its current negative run against.
