Marseille – Paris

Marseille should easily outplay Paris at home.

In the match of the 2nd round of the French championship, Marseille will host Paris. The Provençals have particular scores to settle with the Parisian club, but not with them specifically, rather with PSG. In terms of rivalry with the current hegemon, Marseille and Paris are more allies than opponents. However, the upcoming game promises to be interesting. In the first round both teams lost by the smallest margin. Moreover, in Marseille's camp, the defeat to Rennes away has caused a real scandal. The Provençals created a multitude of chances, attacked a lot, played a significant part of the match with a numerical advantage, but ultimately conceded in stoppage time and lost in a disappointing fashion. After that, a conflict erupted in the dressing room, escalating into a fight. Those involved, Jonathan Rowe and Adrien Rabiot, have been put up for transfer. Overall, Marseille has decided to entertain the public with scandals right from the first round. But this emotional charge may give the Provençals the impetus they need to rehabilitate themselves. Paris also needs to confirm its ambitions. This is a newcomer to Ligue 1, which is not spoiled by being in the elite of French football, unlike many 'elevator' teams like Metz or Lorient. The Parisians, however, have a rather promising squad with talented players. But in the first round, Paris lost away to Angers, conceding an early goal. This opponent should be manageable for the Parisians, as they are also considered a contender for survival in the current season. Perhaps Paris will position itself more as a modest team, capable of gearing up especially for favourites and giving them a fight. Marseille will test this first. Interestingly, the upcoming meeting will be the very first in history between Marseille and Paris. And such revelations, of course, await the Parisian newcomer to Ligue 1 many times this season.
