Last week, Bayern officially ended the championship chase in the Bundesliga for the 2025/2026 season. A victory over the sole rival in the race for the title not only increased the Munich club's lead at the top of the table to eleven points, but also, psychologically, settled everyone into their places. With such a cushion ten rounds before the finish, Bayern can quite plausibly focus on the long-awaited achievement of results in the Champions League and the German Cup. In the first competition they hadn't won since 2013, in the second since 2020. On the one hand, such concentration could allow Kompany to give playing time to the nearest reserves of the first team. On the other hand, it will inevitably lead to dropping points, especially after matches against fairly mediocre opponents. After all, this season Bayern have not once faltered in matches against clubs from the upper half of the Bundesliga table. The champions' points have been taken only by so-called fighters such as Augsburg, Union Berlin, Hamburg, and Mainz. In turn, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer, Leipzig, or Hoffenheim have been sweeping Bayern off the pitch with little trouble. Three full days after the upcoming clash with Borussia Mönchengladbach, the German champion will take the field in Bergamo against Atalanta. The opponent is far from as simple as it seems. At their home stadium in late February, the Italian side defeated another Bundesliga representative—Borussia Dortmund—4-1. The visitors to the Munich match hope to take advantage of these conditions and collect points. They need the Gladbach club to help them cement themselves in the middle of the table and distance themselves from the relegation zone, around which this season teams capable of a winning streak have gathered. In the previous round, Borussia ended their winless streak with a victory over Union Berlin. For seven straight rounds, the Gladbach side had not won, but had been scoring fairly consistently. In the first leg in Mönchengladbach, Bayern beat their opponent 3-0, but the apparent ease of the upcoming match for them looks very deceptive.
