Inter will not fall out of the championship race
Quite unexpectedly, Inter returned to the championship race. However, it did so by losing points to their rival in the fight for the Scudetto. "The snakes got a "routine" victory in the last round. The Nerazzurri came into the match against Torino on the back of a win over Barcelona in the Champions League. Simone Inzaghi fielded a half-reserved squad but it did not prevent them from getting the result they needed. Zalewski's quick goal and Aslani's accurate shot from the spot helped Inter to get the three points. What happened to Napoli? The Neapolitans unexpectedly shared the points with Genoa at the Diego Armando Maradonna. With two rounds to go, the "snakes" are only one point behind first place. Lazio continue to fight for a place in the European Cup. Three draws in the last five rounds have seriously affected the reliability of the Eagles' position. Last Saturday, the Biancocelesti faced Juventus. Torino scored first, but almost immediately left themselves in the minority. Marco Baroni's side managed to salvage a draw only on 90+6 minutes. With two rounds to go, the team sits in fifth place, dangerously close to their rivals at the bottom. Romans have an extremely difficult time in matches against the Nerazzurri this season. The teams have already played each other twice, and both times the victory was on the side of the "snakes". Thus, on 16 December, the clubs met at the Olimpico in the 16th round of the championship. Goals from Çalhanoglu and Dimarco in the first half gave Simone Inzaghi's side the lead. Interestingly, Inter did not stop in the second half. The Biancocelesti scored four more goals by different players. The second time the clubs met at the end of February in the Italian Cup. The match took place at the Giuseppe Meazza, but the scenario was not much different. Arnautovic's goal in the 39th minute put the hosts ahead, while Calkhanoglu sealed a comfortable victory for the Nerazzurri towards the end of the match. It is worth noting that Inter have failed to win just one of their last five home meetings with the Eagles. Simone Inzaghi's men have won 13 of their 18 home games this season. Lazio, interestingly enough, have a rather large over-under on the xPTS metric in away games. Thus, the Romans have scored 6.7 more points away than they should statistically. Both teams continue to struggle on their respective fronts. Inter's motivation, however, is much higher. And although Simone Inzaghi has made it clear that the fate of the championship is no longer in the hands of his team, Inter will try to get it to the end. Can Napoli slip up this Sunday? Of course. "The Nerazzurri need to get three points.
