At least two goals will be recorded in the meeting between the ambitious clubs

An all-important match between two ambitious Championship teams will take place on Wednesday. Sheffield United and West Bromwich were due to face each other back in mid-March, but due to the overlap with the Blades' quarter-final cup encounter against Blackburn, it was postponed until late April. Sheffield United's cup tale came to an end last Saturday. Paul Heckingbottom's team reached the semi-finals of the prestigious national tournament, which they left with their heads held high at Wembley, losing to the reigning and most likely future English champions. The Blades now face the task of bringing their season to a logical conclusion in the Championship, with Heckingbottom one step away from returning to the Premier League with the team he flew out of there following the 2020/2021 Championship. The league situation for Sheffield United is now more than favourable. It has only one rival left in the battle for second place - Luton Town. "The Hatterboys are four points behind, with two more matches played. In other words, should they win on Wednesday, the Blades would finish second early and celebrate a return to the elite of English football. The bookmakers give this development a priority, offering Sheffield United odds of 2.01 on the three points. Anybody could agree with that development, but not West Bromwich. The club have been relegated from the Premier League twice in the last six seasons and are nursing ambitions to get back there a second time. The Thrashers' ambitions were severely shaken by last Sunday's home defeat to Sunderland, which came after two straight away wins. An unwanted setback ahead of the rescheduled meeting has West Bromwich in ninth place, but a win in Sheffield Wednesday would guarantee the Thrashers a move to fifth or sixth - depending on the result of Blackburn and Burnley on Tuesday. A coveted place in the top six for West Bromwich defines the task of the match and makes you forget about the status and strength of the opponent. The clubs have crossed paths five times in the last two years, alternately exchanging victories. The rivals' tendency in terms of performance is much better. Only one of the five encounters in this period has contained fewer than two goals.
